Juvenile delinquency has been around since the late 19th and early 20th century. It was at this time that the first juvenile court was created by the child savers movement (Mallicoat 2016). The rate of juvenile delinquency increased dramatically around the year 1938, which was the time that child labor laws were enforced. These laws limited the amount of time that a child could work in any given week, which gave them more free time. Because children were used to working anywhere between 50 to 70 hour weeks, they did not know what to do with their free time. So, they did what any young child would do, they started getting into trouble. At the time, juvenile delinquency only accounted for the male population. Females at the time were being†¦show more content†¦THE PROJECT When deciding on what to do for our project we looked into the types of crimes that female delinquents were arrested for and the pathways that led them to commit those crimes. When we found that a lot of girl s that are arrested are either arrested for a status offense or prostitution, we decided to look deeper into the reasons why. We found that a lot of girls that are arrested for these crimes are victims themselves. So for our project, my group wanted to highlight the particular pathway that a female offender would go through before getting arrested by creating a video. In order to conserve the amount of money we were spending, we decided that the actors for the video should be the members of the group. However, due to the fact that there were only four members within the group, and one person did not want to be filmed, some members had to play multiple parts and we had to find another person willing to be filmed and someone to edit the video. In the video, we highlight the possible issues within the family by having the mother start dating and having the boyfriend hit on the daughter. We initially wanted to have a part within the video where the boyfriend rapes the daughter off screen because rape or sexual abuse is a common theme for young girls that run away from home.
